There is always someone watching Paris go by.
This time, it’s a cat.
Perched behind the railing of a tiny balcony on Rue de la Réunion, it watches the street with that very particular seriousness cats seem to have. What has caught its attention? A passer-by? An imprudent pigeon? The photographer who has just stopped below?
The cat isn’t telling.
And perhaps that is exactly why I took the photograph.
I love these tiny encounters that happen while I’m walking through Paris. Nothing spectacular, no famous monument in sight, simply a cat at a window — and suddenly there is a story.
Around it, I brought together other photographs from my Paris wanderings: a silhouette caught in the street, buildings trembling in a reflection on the water, a handful of café tables and chairs waiting in the sunshine. Little fragments of the city that meet and answer one another, creating a Paris of their own.
The pouch comes in two formats, each giving the photographs a different rhythm. In the Landscape 28 × 20 cm version, the curious cat settles comfortably into the façade. In the Portrait 19 × 24 cm version, the images unfold vertically, like a slightly eccentric Paris street folded up and slipped into your bag.
