Liberté Toujours Keychain
LIBERTÉ. TOUJOURS.
Freedom. Always. Two words that need little explanation. Photographed in Paris, brought together so they would never be separated again, then made in Paris as a keychain to carry everywhere.
Liberté. Toujours.
I could add many more words, explain, elaborate, make a case for them. But sometimes two are enough.
LIBERTÉ TOUJOURS.
Freedom. Always. I photographed the words separately in Paris while wandering through the city, among façades, old signs, lettering and all the fragments of language that catch my eye. Then I brought them together. They didn't need much help. They already knew exactly what they wanted to say.
For years, I have walked through Paris with my camera, looking at what remains, what changes, what slowly disappears and what still stands proudly above a doorway. I collect letters and words the way other people collect stones or shells. Little by little, they have become my own photographic alphabet.
Back at my computer, I move them around, mix them up and introduce them to new neighbors. Sometimes a story appears. Sometimes a declaration.
Two Words to Keep Close
Liberté Toujours is one of those combinations that doesn't need much decoration. The words are enough. They become a small message to attach to your keys, bag or pouch: discreet, but not entirely silent.
The keychain is designed and made in Paris, in the same city where the words were photographed. I particularly like that continuity here: an expression born from the streets of Paris stays in the city all the way through its making before leaving to begin another life elsewhere.
Give it to someone setting off, someone starting something new, a traveler, a friend, a lover of Paris or simply yourself. Some words deserve to be kept close.
No need to shout. No need to make a fuss.
Liberté. Toujours.
Freedom. Always.
And tomorrow too.
