They simply had to meet. Photographed during one of my walks through Paris, this little everyday scene has become a book pouch made in Paris, designed to protect novels, notebooks and the small treasures you like to carry with you.

There it was. An orange bicycle in front of an orange storefront.
Parked for five minutes, an hour, perhaps the entire day… I have no idea. Its owner had disappeared, which suited me perfectly. All that remained was the bicycle, the color and one of those wonderful little coincidences Paris occasionally places in front of my camera.
I love photographing these unplanned arrangements in the city. Nobody designed them. Nobody decided that this bicycle should stop precisely here. And yet suddenly one color answers another, an ordinary bicycle seems to have chosen its own backdrop, and a perfectly everyday Parisian scene becomes something else.

Today, the image has left the street to become a book pouch made in Paris. A soft textile pouch designed to protect the things you carry in your bag: the novel you started on the Métro, a notebook filled with ideas, a travel guide, papers or all those little belongings you would rather not find crumpled at the bottom of your tote.
The pouch is available in two formats.
In the 28 × 20 cm landscape version, the bicycle stretches across the storefront. You see the scene almost as I first saw it while walking along the pavement: bicycle, window, objects and that wonderfully bold orange background tying everything together.
In the 19 × 24 cm portrait version, the composition becomes tighter. The bicycle takes on another presence, almost like a character in its own little Parisian story.

And although I call it a book pouch, books don't have exclusive rights to it. It can also hold a notebook, an e-reader depending on its dimensions, documents, cables, travel essentials or whatever small things tend to wander around inside a bag.
A multi-purpose pouch, then.
But books had been asking for one for quite some time.
Like all my creations, this pouch begins with an original photograph. I walk through Paris, I look, I stop. Then the photograph continues its journey, printed onto textile and transformed into an object made to be used every day.

A photograph to carry with you, a little piece of Paris to protect a few pages, and an orange bicycle that, after all this time, is still waiting patiently outside its storefront.
Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be in a hurry.
