1 - The Weaving

Follow the thread! The looms at Les Tissages de Charlieu, located in Rhône-Alpes, move like mechanical spiders with agile legs, weaving intricate patterns with expert precision. Since its founding in 1967, this esteemed company has been situated at the heart of France's famed weaving region, continuously developing and honing its craft. With a strong commitment to sustainability, Les Tissages de Charlieu plays a pivotal role in the ALTER-TEX association, a network of French companies dedicated to eco-responsible, ethical, and supportive textile practices.

At Les Tissages de Charlieu, the commitment to reducing environmental impact goes beyond mere participation in associations. The company actively integrates Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into its core operations. This is evident not only in their sustainable production methods but also in their fair labor practices, where a significant portion of the company's profits are shared with their employees, fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture.

Moreover, Les Tissages de Charlieu is proudly Origine France Garantie certified, underscoring their dedication to local production. They also hold prestigious certifications such as the International GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) for their use of organic cotton and the Global Recycled Standard for their efforts in processing recycled polyester. These efforts reflect their broader mission to not only create fabrics but to do so responsibly, ensuring that each thread woven contributes positively to both society and the environment.

This holistic approach to weaving not only results in superior textiles but also supports a sustainable and ethical textile industry, making Les Tissages de Charlieu a true leader in their field.

2 - The Printing Process

Logo Myditex

Let's dive deeper into the vibrant world of color, but be mindful of those pesky ink stains! Once the rolls of fabric have completed their journey, they arrive in Tourcoing, situated in the Hauts-de-France. Here, nestled within an eco-friendly district that breathes new life into a once-abandoned textile area, stands the printing company Myditex. Founded in 2010 by Sébastien Mignot, this human-sized enterprise epitomizes innovation and sustainability in the French textile industry.

At Myditex, the extraordinary transformation occurs. My photographs, which capture the essence of my creative vision, are meticulously transferred onto polyester fabric through the magic of digital printing. This modern technique is celebrated for its minimal environmental impact—it utilizes solvent-free inks, significantly reducing water and energy consumption. The process is not just about being eco-friendly; it also ensures that each printed fabric retains a vivid, high-quality image that withstands the test of time and frequent laundering.

This crucial step in our manufacturing process does more than just imprint patterns on the material. It infuses life into every thread, ensuring that the end products not only look spectacular but are also durable, and sustainably made. By choosing this advanced digital printing method, Myditex helps us guarantee that each good meets high standards of quality and environmental responsibility, delivering textiles that are both beautiful and lasting.

3 - The Sewing

Logo mkb confection

MKB confection, was established in 2009 by Karine Grassien and Murielle Bouchez in Béthune, located in the Hauts-France region. Coming from backgrounds as economic licensees, they embarked on a mission to set up their own workshop. Their aim was clear: to produce goods made entirely in France. By focusing intently on the needs and insights of creators, MKB Confection not only crafted premium garments but also played a crucial role in preserving local employment. Within the walls of their workshop, dedicated artisans like Sophie and Judith meticulously sew boxes and storage compartments with precision and care, contributing to the brand’s reputation for excellence.

Additionally, the ACD – ESAT Père Lachaise plays a vital role in our sewing operations. This association, which provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities, was founded in 1964 by Pierre and Louise Dumonteil. The workshop is uniquely situated in a repurposed stable in Paris, offering a workspace filled with enthusiasm and warmth. Here, skilled seamstresses work together to assemble the various bags and baskets in our collection, infusing each piece with distinct craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Completing our trio of sewing collaborations is the ESAT CATARTOIS, located in Arras, also in the Hauts-France region. Living true to the adage by Jules Renard that “The seamstress's needle pricks like a meticulous hen,” the team at ESAT CATARTOIS is known for their diligent and precise sewing techniques. This establishment not only supports individuals with disabilities by providing them with meaningful work but also focuses on producing durable and finely crafted book covers and shoppers. Each stitch and cut made by their hands contributes significantly to the quality and sustainability of our products.

Together, these three institutions embody the spirit and dedication of the French sewing industry, showcasing the collaborative effort required to create clothing and accessories that are not only beautiful but also ethically made and supportive of the local community.

The Marking "made in France"

“Made in France” or “Fabriqué en France” is a marking of origin that brands can indicate on their goods. However, this indication is optional for non-food products. Nevertheless, if the manufacturer decides to indicate a statement of origin on its product, this must comply with the rules of non-preferential origin codified by customs services in accordance with European regulations.

Informations on the Made in France

“Made in France” or “Fabriqué en France” is a marking of origin that companies can indicate on their goods. In France, a dedicated procedure allows companies to know if their products can be affixed with a “Made in France” type of origin marking. This is the request for Information on “Made in France”.

Any company manufacturing products in France intended to be marketed in the EU and/or exported outside the EU. The IMF is only intended to indicate to companies whether “made in France” type marking of origin is possible or not. This procedure is not mandatory to affix “made in France” to their products. Companies are free to request or not the expertise of the general directorate of customs and indirect rights. Please note, however, that caution should be exercised when affixing a French origin marking on a product. The provisions of the Customs Code and the Consumer Code allow the General Directorate of Customs and Indirect Duties (DGDDI) and the General Directorate of Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) to ensure the protection of French origin by penalizing any fraudulent marking.
