CAPRICE DE REINE. A Queen's Whim. That settles the matter.

I had photographed CAPRICE somewhere in Paris. REINE had entered my collection by another route. They had never met.

Then one day, I placed them side by side. CAPRICE had character. So did REINE.

I didn't interfere. The encounter took care of itself.

My Little Kingdom of Letters

For years, I have been photographing Paris as I walk through the city. I am less interested in the grand postcard views than in what hides around them: an old storefront, painted letters on a façade, a sign that has survived the years, a word glimpsed above a doorway. I photograph this entire little typographic population.

Little by little, I have built a rather curious kingdom of my own: hundreds of letters and words gathered throughout Paris.

Then, at my computer, I mix things up. Some encounters are perfectly sensible. Others are considerably less so.

Caprice de Reine definitely belongs to the second category.

A Useful Little Whim

Because Her Majesty may have her whims, but she still needs to find her keys. The Caprice de Reine keychain can accompany a set of keys or be attached to a bag or pouch as a distinctive little detail.

The words were photographed in Paris, the composition was created here, and the keychain itself is made in Paris.

A little Parisian object from beginning to end.

Which Queen Is It For?

A slightly demanding friend.

A sister who knows exactly what she wants.

A mother whose decisions are final.

A sweetheart who is very difficult to refuse.

Or yourself, of course. A queen doesn't wait for someone else to buy her presents. She decides. And if she changes her mind five minutes later, there is a perfectly good name for that:

Caprice de Reine.
